ORIGINS
The Balikun horse is from the autonomous region of Xinjiang in northwest China. It originated from Kazakh and Mongolian horses. Over 200 years of selective breeding has made the Balikun horse a breed of its own. It is able to survive on steppe hills and and pasture with harsh temperatures as low as 40 degrees below zero.

PHYSICAL FEATURES / PHYSIQUE
The Balikun horses are considered to be a light breed. They stand, on average, from 12.2 to 13.1 hands. They have heavy heads with a short, thick, muscular neck. Their withers are often rather low, and the back short, flat, and very strong. Shoulders are straight, but muscular. Their croup is sloped, with their tail being low-set. They have very strong quarters, and are would have no problem carrying over 200 pounds all day. Balikun horses come in bay and chestnut. They have a thick dense coat abling them to be comfortable at temperatures under -40F.

TEMPERAMENT
Balikun horses have a willing and able attitude.

The Balikun horse is used for transportation, farm work, and draft.
