The Aegidienberger horse is a cross between the hardy Icelandic horse (62.5%) and the elegant Peruvian Paso horse (37.5%). This cross-breed was produced to create a larger gaited animal that was small and hardy enough to navigate difficult terrain and be more suited for a warmer climate in central Europe.

ORIGINS
The Aegidienberger horse originated in Germany. The first cross between Icelandic and Peruvian horses was by Walter Feldman. It was officially recognized as a seperate breed in 1994.

Aegidienberger Horse PHYSICAL FEATURES / PHYSIQUE
Aegidienberger horses stand between 13 and 15 hands high. They are a small to medium sized horse with a short muscular upright neck, and a proud head carrage. Their bodies are strong and sturdy with both the mane and the tail are very thick. Their tails arel high set. The colors they come in are bay, black, brown, buckskin, champagne, chesnut, cremello, dun, grullo, perlino, roan and white. All colors are accepted for the breed.

The Aegidienberger horse can naturally perform a tölt which is a gait that is known for being free in movement with a flowing liquidity in pace. The tölt uses a very long stride pattern with the forelegs involved in a high lifting action. It is a riding quality unique to the Icelandic horse and was genetically passed down.

TEMPERAMENT
The Aegidienberger has a great willingness and a friendly nature. It is very fond of people, and is known as being a very gentle horse with a strong personality. It is often thought of as having a flawless character.

USES / ASSETS
Aegidienberger horses are excellent all around riding horses. They are also sometimes used for agricultural work.

STATUS
There have never been any more than 100 Aegidienberger horses at any time, and their numbers have been declining since the begining of the stud book
