ORIGINS
The first documented Abstang was created by Michele Brown of Utah in 1990
by breeding a unrefined feral mustang with an Arabien thoroughbred. The
Arabian horse then gave birth to what is now known as an Abstang.
The International Abstang Registry and Association was formed in 1993 by
Michele Brown to draw recognition to the Abstrang as a breed. There are
now over 1500 registered with the IARA. However, as of yet, no two Abstangers
have produced offspring. Therefore, Abstangen can not truly be considered
a completely seperate breed.
PHYSICAL FEATURES / PHYSIQUE
Because this Abstang mixes two bloodlines, their characteristics vary considerably. Especially being that mustangs vary in physical appearance to a great extent. The Abstang is said to have a straight profile, and rounded croup. The Abstang is generally a smaller size horse. On average, it is probably about 14 hands in height. The Abstang comes in many different colors. It is a durable, sturdy, sure-footed horse.
TEMPERAMENT
Fearless attitude. Spirited, & tough.
USES / ASSETS
The Abstang horse is very fit for endurance or rough terrain. It is often also used for show and pleasure riding.
STATUS
All the registered Abstangs are the result of Mustang/Arabian crosses. There are no Abstang to Abstang matings as yet, and there seems to be little interest in creating any.
