Emanuel Wynne

Emanuel Wynne was the first well known pirate to fly the jolly roger. His flag consisted of the skull and crossbones above an hourglass, implying to his prey that their time was running out.

He began his career in piracy invading English merchantmen off the Carolina Coast near the end of the 1600's. Later, he moved to the Carribean, finding it more profitable.
